How I make an artwork
I create my artwork digitally using various software.
In this process I have a clear vision of what I want to achieve beforehand. That is required to arrive at art in this way.
In this I have developed my own style in which two important trends can be recognized:
- The elegant 'inks with drips'
- The more robust work with 'thick layers of paint'
Characteristic of my work is the clear and striking use of color and color combinations that reinforce each other.
The special printing and production method creates an intense colour experience.
After designing an artwork
After the design process of the artwork, various processes follow to make the artwork suitable for special fine-art printing.
Color editing, color verification and authentication, and densification of the file (the pixels it is made up of) are important factors for a good end result.
Fine art production
I have my artworks produced by specialized companies that also make reproductions of old masters (such as those that, for safety reasons, often hang in museums instead of the authentic original works).
In fine art printing, the color layers are built up using special printers that print 12 colors of ink.
Why can't you have it printed yourself or at a printer?
A 'normal' printing process or digital printer works on the basis of 4 colours of ink (CYMK Cyan - Yellow - Magenta - Key/black). Fine-art printers have a much larger colour range due to the 12 colours of ink, which I specifically take into account when creating my Artwork and which makes my artworks so distinctive in colour.
What versions are there?
My works are executed in fine-art or in fine-art-high gloss. In case of customization I advise what is the best choice for the destination of the Artwork.
What types of performances are there?
- In fine art printing, the ink is applied to acid-free museum paper made of 100% cotton, which ensures a very long-lasting quality and the work and colours are not UV-sensitive as with 'cheap' carriers such as paper or canvas. This gives a very matt appearance, which allows the thick layers of paint that I have developed in my Artwork to really come into their own. The three-dimensional effect is enhanced, which often makes people want to feel whether what their eyes perceive is actually happening on the canvas. This fine art is delivered in a frame of your choice.
- The high-gloss version is produced by applying the ink layers to a film. This film is applied to an aluminium plate and the inks of the film are fused with the aluminium in a sublimation oven. After this process, a protective layer is applied. This protects against UV, yellowing etc. and provides the gloss and gives extra depth effect. This appearance has the special feature that the artwork 'colours with the light' during the day: radiant and bright during the day and calmer, warmer, fuller and more subdued in colour in the evening. This high-gloss version can be hung freely on the wall and also provided with a frame.
How is a modern artwork finished?
- Depending on whether the work is to be framed or hung freely, it is provided with an optically thickening black plate behind the aluminium.
- My outdoor artworks look like high-gloss and are also provided with a special coating that makes them suitable for outdoor use.
- All works are ready for use and provided with a frame and/or aluminium hanging profile.
